Palpitando la Fiesta del Poncho: su historia, a más de 50 años de la primera edición

Muchas fiestas son la celebración de la identidad de un pueblo y enriquecen el patrimonio cultural. Una de ellas es la Fiesta Nacional del Poncho, el show más grande del invierno argentino, que en este 2018 tendrá lugar entre el 13 y el 22 de julio en el Predio Ferial de la Capital de Catamarca.

La Fiesta Nacional e Internacional del Poncho nació en 1967 y fue institucionalizada mediante el Dto. Nº 645/67, suscripto por el gobernador Guillermo Brizuela, en el que se fijó el mes de julio para su realización en concordancia con las vacaciones invernales.

El lugar elegido fue la ya histórica Manzana del Turismo, y desde el 5 hasta el 16 de julio de 1967 la programación contó con la participación de todos los departamentos de la provincia, con concursos de artesanías, de poesía, música, y el festival de música. Además, la cartelera nacional contó con importantes personalidades como Los Chalchaleros, Jaime Dávalos y Margarita Palacios.

La creación de la Fiesta del Poncho fue motivada por diferentes objetivos, entre ellos la reivindicación de una prenda tan singular, importante y representativa de Catamarca a nivel nacional e internacional, que brilló en exposiciones mundiales y sirvió para homenajear a diversas personalidades destacadas que visitaron la provincia y el país.

También la necesidad de exponer las artesanías tan ricas y variadas en una exposición y venta al gran público. Por otra parte, el folclore catamarqueño, tan rico, debía ser incentivado y promovido en una instancia nacional y demostrar nuestra historia, cultura, cordialidad y sobre todo los incomparables paisajes.

Hoy, a más de 50 años de la primera edición, el Poncho se ha transformado en un símbolo de la identidad de Catamarca, y su fiesta es asumida y vivida como la fiesta de todos. En ese tiempo ha crecido en infraestructura, en expositores, en artistas y sobre todo en visitantes.

Lo cierto es que este invierno, al abrigo del mejor poncho del mundo, Catamarca recibirá a quienes deseen disfrutar de una auténtica muestra, fruto del esfuerzo de quienes mantienen viva nuestra cultura transmitida de generación en generación. Diez días de fiesta, de canto, de homenajes y gestos.
